Our Analysis and Test Results
The Moosoo stick vacuum is a solid budget option that includes attachments that let it double as a handheld vacuum, further increasing its versatility and value.
Performance Comparison
Convenience
Our first testing metric rated and ranked how convenient it is to clean with each of the vacuums in our lineup. We looked at how versatile each vacuum is, whether corded or cordless, the weight, and how easy it is to store all of the attachments. The Moosoo did very well, earning one of the better scores of the bunch.
As we mentioned before, this is one of the better options if you are looking for a stick vacuum that can double as a handheld vacuum, making it a practical tool for cleaning most places in your home. It's effortless to remove and attach different sections with the click-button locking mechanism. We also found the included handheld attachment quite effective and easy to use. Additionally, this vacuum is one of the lighter options of the group, tipping the scale at just over 5 pounds.
The Moosoo is a cordless stick vacuum, and it performed reasonably well in our runtime tests. The manufacturer claims that it can last for up to 28 minutes on low power, aligning well with our hands-on testing. We also got just shy of 23 minutes when running this vacuum on high. However, it takes around 5 hours and 40 minutes to fully recharge the battery, which is a bit high. When it comes to storage, it is designed to be wall-mounted, but we found it can balance against a table or wall decently if you don't want to mount it on the wall.
Hard Surface Cleaning
Next, we ran the Moosoo through our first series of cleaning tests, evaluating how well it vacuumed up various types of messes from hard floors. We used rice, flour, cereal, pet hair, and oats for our messes, finding that the Moosoo did well above average but still a bit below the top-tier models.
The Moosoo got off to a good start in this metric, earning one of the better scores for cleaning up rice. It sucked up just about all of the rice we spread out in a single pass, provided we went slow. It also didn't drop any grains when moving backward. This vacuum also did quite well when picking up flour, even though its performance dropped slightly.
However, we found this stick vacuum only delivered mediocre results when cleaning up larger items, like Cheerios. It tended to crush them up and get clogged — to the point where we needed to stop vacuuming and shake the entire brush head to free them. Fortunately, performance rebounded when it came to pet hair and oats. The Moosoo did a fine job removing the hair from hard floors and picked up all of the oats in a single pass — similar to the rice.
Ease of Use
For this metric, we awarded points based on how maneuverable each vacuum was, how loud, how easily it could clean under furniture and close to the edges of a room, and the different cleaning modes available. The Moosoo delivered a decent set of results.
This vacuum has both a high and low power mode, and you can easily switch between modes by pulling the trigger. However, there isn't an option to turn the rotating brush head off.
We found the Moosoo able to clean in very close to an edge when approaching it head-on, but it left a decent amount of debris behind when moving parallel to the edge. The unit has swivel steering, making it very easy to handle, and is one of the quieter vacuums in our lineup, measuring around 67 dBa.
This vacuum can also clean about 27" under most pieces of furniture, perfect for getting under coffee tables or couches. This reach isn't the farthest of our tested models, but it's up there.
Carpet Cleaning
Our last set of tests for this product focused on its performance at cleaning carpets. We used the same types of messes as our hard floor metric, but the performance of the Moosoo dropped in this category.
This vacuum got off to a middling start in our rice test, taking 3-4 passes to collect all the rice from a flat carpet. We also found that rice would usually fall out of the vacuum after turning off the brush roll, necessitating subsequent cleaning. It did even worse on fluffier carpet, leaving quite a mess behind in the deeper piles.
This vacuum improved a bit when cleaning flour from flat carpet, doing quite well and removing most of the mess. Regrettably, performance plummeted when it came to collecting Cheerios. It not only left behind tons of debris on both types of carpet but also would routinely clog itself up in the process.
The Moosoo also didn't particularly impress us when it came to cleaning up pet hair or oats, leaving plenty behind even after multiple passes.
Should You Buy the Moosoo XL-618A?
For decent cleaning ability and a budget-friendly price, we don't think you can beat the Moosoo. This vacuum scored well for cleaning hard surfaces and sports a significantly lower price than most higher-ranking competition. If your goal is a secondary vacuum for hard surfaces messes and floating pet hair, the Moosoo is the one we'd recommend.
What Other Stick Vacuum Should You Consider?
The Moosoo struggled a little over the carpet, which isn't the strong suit of any stick vacuum, but others did perform better. If your needs include more carpet areas you hope to cover, you might consider an option with better test results in this metric. The Shark IONFlex earned a higher score here and a higher result overall, but it will cost almost double the price. However, for the price, you get a product that is easier to use, more versatile and performs better cleaning every kind of surface.
